Thanks Kristy! I thought he was a good defensive player also but it is nice hearing that from someone who follows the game closely and not an average fan haha People have been saying negative things about his fielding but I thought I remembered hearing he was good and he looked good when I saw him play also. Marte is known for being very good defensively in center. Some say he could push Andrew McCutchen to a corner. He’s had a few errors this spring, but its his first big league camp so it could be nerves or just playing baseball again with having an offseason. He hasn’t made one in a little while. They came early in spring. I wouldn’t worry about his defense. I saw him last year in Altoona a lot and he made some great plays.

I’d say Clint Barmes has quietly done a good job so far. I have confidence he will really help out the stability of the infield and his bat will be a surprising bonus.
He’s always impressed me over the years as being in the mold of a scrappy Phil Garner type of player.

Great to see Marte hitting against a proven Major League pitcher. Lots of people seem to think he is only hitting well because he isn’t facing definite starters. Also, Tim, wasn’t Marte an excellent defensive player throughout his career thus far? The errors in the field are not a positive but people are quick to judge his ability out there in his first real grapefruit experience. I was quite surprised with the errors due to watching him field in Altoona before and all of the scouting reports.
