BRADENTON, Fla. -- Right-hander Charlie Morton continues to take steps forward and could be seeing time in the Grapefruit League with the Pirates soon.
On Saturday afternoon, while the Major League club was playing the Toronto Blue Jays in Dunedin, Fla., Morton threw live batting practice at McKechnie Field in Bradenton.
It marked Morton’s second live BP session this spring. Morton threw his first live batting practice at Pirate City on Wednesday. The 28-year-old underwent left hip surgery to repair a labrum tear in mid-October. This outing, Morton threw upped his pitch count to a 40-pitch session to live hitters.
