If Harrison can hit .280 and field reasonably well he can start for me on this team. If this team had a bunch of sluggers beating Harrison out, I would agree that he should not start, I happen to like guys that come to the plate and I think they have a good shot at getting a hit.

His defense at third has always been good. My feeling was always that his bat didn’t play well at third, and his defense wasn’t strong enough where his bat plays best at second. But I was impressed with what I saw from him at shortstop, and the results of his conditioning over the off-season. I don’t think he can be a starter or a plus defender at all, but he’s shown improvement at the middle infield spots.

Really, he was quite good at 3B last year by UZR or traditional metrics. I agree taht he is not likely to be very good at SS, but he was very good at 3B. Are you confusing him with Chase?

I was asking about his playing time in spring training this year which is what she stated. I’m with you that Navarro is a better player than Harrison.

I just can’t see Harrison as the primary backup shortstop. His defense has always been bad. That was the knock on him when he came over. He can hit, but his defense is shaky at best.

As Kristy stated – 19 GP (9 started) at SS.

Navarro is a better SS than Harrison. IMO, he goes north, and J-Hay goes to Indy.

My MLB game notes shows he has. I’ll have to look into it. I’m sure as a replacement, not a start.
Harrison’s defense isn’t as good as Navarro’s, but I’d personally rather have Harrison and Hague as my backups. Better bats off the bench.

Kristy, according to MLB.com, Navarro hasn’t played an inning at SS in a game. Is that correct? It sure seems like Harrison is the backup SS with Navarro in the battle with Hague, Evans, and Fox for the last spot. I’d much rather see Navarro go north than Harrison.

I don’t see how the Pirates can carry both Navarro and Josh Harrison. And Harrison has shown more than him.
