Really? Complaining about a Spring Training record? Most of the games Hanrahan has been in he's pitched in the 4th of 5th inning. Until this past week, you've had guys like Barmes or Walker, Tabata or Presley only playing half of a game. Relief pitchers that had no chance at making the team out of camp in the first place have been blowing games. Resop actually started a game. Just now the starters are beginning to even come close to throwing the number of pitches or innings that they're expected to during the regular season.

Get real, and look at how the guys that will actually be on the 25-man roster are performing and how they're progressing. I don't see how you can judge a team's record when half the players that have been playing until recently are either going to be in AAA, selling insurance again, or sitting on their couch come Opening day.

We can always hope. Every day the big club sinks deeper into the abyss. They can't win a game. Can't hit. Starting pitchers aren't impressive. Bullpen is shaky at best. I know it's only Spring, but can we expect this to turn around? And I'm not even talking about Alvarez.
Somebody lift my spirits here...soon to be what? 8-15

Tim, I understand why fans impatience can become irritating sometimes. But, you have to remember that baseball in Pgh had fallen so far from peoples minds due to the constant losing. Therefore, most of the fans are football fans that are just waiting for camp to start at the end of the summer. Football, like basketball, is a sport where players are drafted for specific team needs and the players are able to make an impact immediately. Baseball and hockey drafts players and try to develop them into pros. This process takes years depending on the player. So, the average fan is wondering why if this guy was good enough for say $2.25 mil in the 2nd round then why is he having problems in short season A-ball, he must be a bust. That said, I'm with you in the fact that I believe with some seasoning Allie could be a top of the rotation starter!

I don't know who those two guys were that were taking batting practice against Allie in the 2011 video, but give them credit for having some guts to stay in the box against Allie.

I think the public and the media are far too judgemental when it comes to minor league players, especially lower minor league players, all of them are in development, where they are at in their development is something that the team has a far better handle on than the average person, but when they get to AAA, they are developed far enough that some judgements can be made IMO by the average person.

IMO, development does take place at all levels including major league development, I believe that a guy like Alvarez could be a slow developing major league player and might not totally develop until he is 27 or 28 if he indeed does develop.
