Like I always say, I’d rather have a group of guys throwing 96 and hope I can teach them to pitch with control than trying to teach a bunch of control pitchers how to throw 96.  Baseball is a sport that’s so reliant on learned concepts and skills, that there’s only a matter of time before you’re flooded with legitimate prospect candidates if you’re drafting up players like they have.  It just takes that time to build first, and I think the Pirates’ organization is closing in on reaching that level.

Yesterday when I saw Elias Diaz as the catcher in A ball I assumed I would see Emsley-Pai here. Is he starting in extended spring training or is he injured? The only other name I’m surprised not to see is Victor Black but I’m guessing I’ll see him tomorrow in the AA preview.
