We’ve already seen Baseball America ad Keith Law release mock drafts that have shortstop Deven Marrero going to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Today, Jonathan Mayo released a mock draft of the top ten picks, and also has the Pirates taking Marrero.
Mayo notes that Marrero has struggled this Spring, but has hit more consistently in the past. He also notes that it’s rare to get a draft pick who can stay at shortstop. Mayo’s top seven included the usual suspects from the consensus top six (Mark Appel, Byron Buxton, Mike Zunino, Kevin Gausman, Kyle Zimmer, and Carlos Correa). He also had Albert Almora going sixth overall. Max Fried went tenth overall to Colorado.

In his draft chat yesterday, Jim Callis seemed to think he’d be a decent hitter and that as rare as SS prospects are, he’d be a good pick.
