How much better is he than Maggi? He is probably the best fielder in minors now. Would Marrero be a huge upgrade over Maggi? I guess he must be with glove but maybe not with bat.

As I've said many times, I'm not fully sold on Marrero myself. I'd take Almora, if he's there. Or one of the top six guys. Or Giolito, if healthy. But I don't think Marrero is that bad of a pick if all of those guys are gone and Giolito isn't healthy.

I see what you are saying..this year there are only 12 SS with an OPS of .700..and starlin castros OPS is 0.765 with the highest being a cabrera at 0.886...I just am not sure about him and I like the idea of frieds upside having a lefthanded pitcher in between cole and taillon..i know that everyone will not make it probably but pitching is the most important to me...I feel we can get solid college bats after the first round..we are due to get lucky in there

You're focusing only on the offense and potential upsides here. What you're ignoring is the value of plus defense at shortstop. You're also ignoring the floor for Marrero. There might be more potential upside with Fried, but his floor is also lower. Marrero is a strong bet to make the majors and have an impact.

It's not like Bullington. That was the first overall pick. This is the eighth overall pick. It's a big difference.

I just dont see how a guy who could have a .700 OPS someday is someone you take with the eighth pick in the draft...this reminds me of that fateful day littlefield said bryan bullington could someday be a solid number three starter...draft fried or giolito..or someone that falls from he top seven..
