McCutchen Placed on DL; Hanrahan Activated From Bereavement List

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — The Pittsburgh Pirates placed right-hander Daniel McCutchen on the disabled list prior to the game on Sunday. As a corresponding move, they added closer Joel Hanrahan back on the club’s active roster.

Hanrahan was placed on the Bereavement List on Thursday due to the passing of his Grandmother. The righty closer is available from the bullpen for today’s game against Houston.

McCutchen was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left oblique. The 29-year-old suffered the injury while taking batting practice at PNC Park prior to the game against the Houston Astros on Saturday.

McCutchen did not make an appearance with the club since being recalled. The reliever went 2-2 with a 2.49 ERA in 11 games with Indy this season and contributes his success to sharper pitches and command.
