John was born in Kearny, NJ, hometown of the 2B for the Pirates 1909 World Championship team, Dots Miller. In fact they have some of the same relatives in common, so it was only natural for him to become a lifelong Pirates fan. He writes a weekly article on Pirates history for the site, has already interviewed many of the current minor leaguers with many more on the way and follows the foreign minor league teams very closely for the site. Phillip is starting tomorrow night. Also, he missed the start of the season with sholder tendonitis.

Thanks for the Irwin note. The game recap from Altoona said that he was starting the opener of this series ”
The Curve will send RHP Phillip Irwin to the mound in the lid lifter of a four-game series at Jerry Uht Park in Erie on Thursday with a first pitch of 6:35 p.m”. His injury update was directly from Tim, who was down in Bradenton talking to coaches at the time and reported here. That is where I got that info

I appreciate it too. The Altoona game notes had Baker listed but the game story was more recent so I went with that. As far as his injury, I changed the wording for today’s article.
