Minor League Schedule: 5/10/12

West Virginia was off yesterday. They begin a seven game homestand tonight. Indianapolis has a morning start time today. Yesterday, Altoona completed the suspended game from Tuesday night first, then played their regularly scheduled game. A full recap of yesterday’s games can be found here.

Taillon has yet to allow a home run this season.

Triple-A: Indianapolis (19-13) VS Lehigh Valley (17-15) 11:05am
Probable starter: Jeff Locke (3-1 2.31)

Jeff Locke will make his seventh start of the season today. Overall on the year, he has pitched 35 innings, allowing 33 hits, seven walks and he has struck out 28 batters. In each of his last two starts, he has thrown seven shutout innings. In each of his two starts prior to that, Jeff allowed just one run in six innings. Left-handed batters are hitting just .143 against him.

Double-A: Altoona (13-18) @ Erie (14-17) 6:35pm
Probable starter: Nate Baker (2-3 5.34)

Nate Baker will make his seventh start of the season tonight. In his last game he threw seven scoreless innings. On the year he has pitched 30.1 innings, allowing 27 hits, 15 walks and he has struck out 18 batters.

High-A: Bradenton (16-17) VS Clearwater (17-14) 6:30pm
Probable starter: Jameson Taillon (1-2 1.76)

Jameson Taillon will make his seventh start of the season tonight. His 0.82 WHIP, ranks second in the Florida State League. He is second on the team with his 33 strikeouts, trailing Gerrit Cole by one. In his last outing on 5/4, Jameson went six innings, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts. In all six of his starts, he has allowed four or less hits and two or less runs.

Low-A: West Virginia (11-21) VS Charleston (21-9) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Matt Benedict (2-1 1.97)

Matt Benedict will get his seventh start of the season tonight. On the year, he has pitched 32 innings, allowing 34 hits, eight walks and he has struck out 21, while not allowing a single home run. In his last start on 5/4, Matt gave up three runs(two earned) on seven hits and no walks in five innings. He has a 2.70 ERA in his three home starts. Benedict leads the team in ERA,  innings pitched and he has the lowest WHIP(1.31) among all starters on the team.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball.
