Minor League Schedule: 5/12/12

Top prospect Gerrit Cole, gets his seventh professional start tonight. Rated number one overall in our 2012 Prospect Guide, Cole is ranked ninth overall in the Florida State League in WHIP(1.07) and he’s 11th overall in strikeouts despite the fact his 28 innings pitched rank him tied for 45th in the league. Cole faces first place St Lucie tonight

Triple-A: Indianapolis (20-14) VS Norfolk (14-19) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Jo-Jo Reyes (5-0 2.03)

Yesterday’s Result: Indianapolis 4 Norfolk 1 (game story here)

Jo-Jo Reyes will make his sixth start of the season tonight, he also made one relief appearance early in the year. In his last start on 5/7, Reyes threw a shutout against Lehigh Valley. He has won all five of his starts this year and in every one of them, he allowed two or fewer runs. Left-handed batters are hitting just .137 against Jo-Jo. He has a 1.47 ERA in his starts.

Double-A: Altoona (13-20) @ Erie (16-17) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Brandon Cumpton (4-2 3.44)

Yesterday’s Result: Altoona 3 Erie 7

Brandon Cumpton will make his seventh start of the season tonight. In his last start on 5/6, Brandon gave up one run in 5.2 innings, giving up just three hits and one walk. He has pitched a team leading 36.2 innings this year, allowing 32 hits, seven walks and he has recorded 21 strikeouts. His 1.06 WHIP is the best among Curve starters and no other pitcher on the team has won more than two games.

High-A: Bradenton (17-18) VS St Lucie (28-7) 6:30pm
Probable starter: Gerrit Cole (1-1 3.54)

Yesterday’s Result: Bradenton 3 Clearwater 4 in 10 innings.

Gerrit Cole will make his seventh start of his pro career tonight. He has pitched at least five innings in each of his last four starts, after having his pitch count limited earlier in the year. Cole has made five of his starts on the road this year. His only home start came on 4/20 against Ft Myers when he allowed three runs in five innings with seven strikeouts. Gerrit has averaged at least a strikeout per inning in all of his starts. Batters are hit .202 against him and left-handers are hitting just .156.

Low-A: West Virginia (11-23) VS Charleston (23-9) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Zac Fuesser (0-0 3.12)

Yesterday’s Result: West Virginia 4 Charleston 8

Zac Fuesser will make his seventh start of the season tonight. He has yet to pick up a decision this year. In 26 innings this year, Zac has allowed 25 hits, 13 walks and has struck out 22 batters. In his last start, he went five innings, giving up one run on eight hits and one walk. Fuesser hasn’t allowed a home run since his first outing. He pitched four shutout innings against Charleston on 4/19, giving up two hits and one walk, with four strikeouts.
