Top ranked prospect Gerrit Cole, will get his eighth start of the season tonight for Bradenton. He is tied for the sixth best WHIP(1.00) in the Florida State League. He also has the 11th most strikeouts in the league, while ranking 34th in innings pitched. A full recap of yesterday’s games can be found here.

Triple-A: Indianapolis (22-17) @ Lehigh Valley (23-16) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Jo-Jo Reyes (5-0 2.25)

Jo-Jo Reyes will make his seventh start of the season tonight, he also made one relief appearance at the start of the season. In all six of his starts, he has pitched at least five innings while giving up two runs or less. He made a start again Lehigh Valley on 5/7, throwing a complete game shutout. Reyes allowed three hits, one walk and he struck out a season high eight batters. He is holding opposing batters to a .246 average, left-handed hitters are batting just .145 against him.

Double-A: Altoona (15-22) @ Bowie (15-23) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Phil Irwin (0-1 7.20)

Phil Irwin will make his third start of the season tonight, his second while with Altoona. On 5/11, he gave up four runs in five innings, allowing five hits, two walks and he struck out one. After missing the first month of the season with an arm injury, Irwin made a rehab start with Bradenton on 5/5. He picked up the win, going five innings, while allowing one run on two hits with no walks and six strikeouts.

Gerrit Cole will make his eighth start of the season tonight. In 34 innings, he has allowed 23 hits, walked eleven and struck out 39 batters. He trails team leader, Jameson Taillon, by one in strikeouts. Taillon has pitched 8.1 more innings than Cole. In his last start on 5/12, Gerrit allowed one run(solo homer) in six innings, giving up a total of three hits, one walk and he struck out five. Opposing batters are hitting .193 against him.

Low-A: West Virginia (13-26) @ Greenville (18-20) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Orlando Castro (1-4 6.04)

Yesterday’s Result: West Virginia 7 Lexington 13

Orlando Castro is making a spot start tonight for WV in place of Zac Fuesser. It is the first start of the year for Castro, he has pitched eight times out of the pen for a total of 22.1 innings

John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball.
