I love great defense from a shortstop, though I’ll admit it’s hard to get excited by the defense of a player we don’t really see live or on TV, we just hear about it. It’s easier for fans to judge these prospects by their offensive numbers, and Marrero hasn’t hit like a guy I would get excited about.

The Pirates need to hit it big in the draft because we can’t spend in free agency, so it’s hard to get excited about the next Brendan Ryan with the ceiling of Elvis Andrus (minus the base-running). Sounds like he could be a solid pick, but when this is the only chance to pick up stars, “solid” feels a bit disappointing.

I love Richie Shaffer and think he should be the Pirates pick at 8. I am all in favor for him, Almora, or Hawkins at 8

I’d love for the Bucs to get Correa, but that;s highly unlikely. I’m in favor of us taking Marrero. He doesn’t have superstar potential, but there’s nothing wrong with a good, everyday shortstop. I also would love for Trey Williams to go to the Pirates in the second. It seems like he has great power potential.

I disagree on Shaffer. I think he could stick at 3rd and like his bat a lot but I don’t see him being there for the Bucs’ second pick, so I guess it doesn’t matter. I like his power and poise though!
