Gotta hold him back just because he’s young – STUPID.
Basically Bryce Harper would still be in A ball for the Pirates because they are stuck in the middle ages. Rediculous

I suppose my focus was more about, if he continues on to do very well with state college, how does he match up against an even higher talent level. That’s just my curiosity as a fan though. Developmentally, however, your schedule makes perfect sense.

I was immature with a CAPITAL “I”. Kudos to Luis.

However, I must say that I had a hellacious 3 pitch wiffle ball mix at that age!!!

There’s just nothing to gain from the move. Say he pitches 1-2 games at WV…they’re a last place team that’s not going to make the SAL playoffs so he won’t even get a taste of that excitement.
I see him spending full years at Low A and High A in 2013 and 2014. 2015 could be a split between AA and AAA. 2016 would be his arrival.

Would it be possible though, assuming continued domination at his current level, that he might see a start or two in WV this year?

Felix at 17 pitched in the Northwest league (short season) and 2 starts at Low A. Then at age 18, he got skipped to High A and then split the season with Double A. Total innings 149 that year.
Age 19 — half season in Triple A, then debuted for the M’s.
The Pirates are just not going to do that schedule. If all goes on schedule, Heredia should be in Pittsburgh at age 21 and that would be fantastic to see.

Great work helping us to get to know Heredia.

It is exciting to think that even if some of our “potential aces” don’t pan out, that we have so many that at least a few should make it to Pittsburgh.

He basically had a cliche about how there are a ton of guys that get back on the bench and say, I had great stuff today, and still got hit around. However, that there are few that get back to the dugout and complain when they had great control.

Now, I’m not a huge fan of player/prospect comps. However, given the size, the build, and the stuff, is this just like a larger, potential Felix Hernandez they’re grooming?

I’m a big fan of what they say their approach to developing pitchers is. Keep the ball down, throw on the downward plane, pitch off the fastball. I feel as though it’s a very nice approach, aimply because that philosophy is what’s going to help a 6’1 pitcher throwing in mid-high 80′s find success. So if all of the sudden you have a guy that can get into the mid 90′s, well that’s even better.
