Minor League Schedule: 6/17/12

Bradenton is off today, the last day of their All-Star break. They resume their schedule Monday. West Virginia begins their All-Star break after today’s game. Alen Hanson, Gregory Polanco and Matt Benedict were all chosen for the South Atlantic League All-Star game, which will be played Tuesday night. Justin Wilson has a 1.84 ERA in day games this year

Probable starter: Justin Wilson (5-4 3.80)

Justin Wilson will make his 14th start of the season. He has pitched a total of 68.1 innings, allowing 55 hits, seven homers, 33 walks and he has recorded 68 strikeouts. Wilson pitched seven scoreless innings in his last start, giving up four hits and no walks, with six strikeouts. Batters are hitting .217 against him on the year, .175 from the left side. Justin ranks eighth in the International League in strikeouts. Wilson has a 5.55 ERA in seven road starts, 1.91 at home.

Shairon Martis will make his seventh start of the season tonight. He has also made seven relief appearances, four of them while with Indianapolis. Martis has pitched a total of 50 innings this year, allowing 40 hits, eight homers, 18 walks and he has struck out 33 batters. With Altoona, batters are hitting .215 against him with a 1.21 GO/AO ratio. As a starter, Shairon is 4-2 3.63 in 34.2 innings. In his last start, he allowed five runs on eight hits and two walks, in 3.2 innings.

Bradenton is in last place in their division, eliminated from the first half title. The league records reset after 70 games for the second half title run. The Marauders have a 16-17 home record, 11-23 road record. They are 2-8 in their last ten games and they broke a five game losing streak with their win in the last game before the break.

Probable starter: Nick Kingham (1-4 5.57)

Nick Kingham will make his 14th start of the season tonight. He has pitched a total of 53.1 innings, allowing 59 hits, 12 homers, 17 walks and he has struck out 49 batters. After posting an 8.59 ERA in April, Nick rebounded for a 2.84 mark in May, only to see it rise to 7.43 in his three June starts. He has a 2.96 ERA at home this season, 7.76 in eight road starts. He has made it through five complete innings in just five of his starts this year, and none of his last three.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball.
