Minor League Schedule: 6/20/12

Gerrit Cole will make his AA debut tonight. He left the Florida State League with the third best ERA(2.55), third best WHIP(1.10) and his 69 strikeouts ranks sixth. Bradenton has an early morning start time today. West Virginia returns from their All-Star break tomorrow. A full recap of yesterday’s games can be found here.

Cole has the highest SO/9 rate(9.3) in the Pirates system

Probable starter: Daniel Cabrera (2-3 4.81)

Daniel Cabrera will make his tenth start for Indianapolis. He also made one early season rehab start with Bradenton. For Indy, he has pitched a total of 48.2 innings, allowing 58 hits, two homers, 17 walks and he has 28 strikeouts. After posting a 3.82 ERA in six May starts, Daniel has a 6.89 ERA in three June games. Batters are hitting .307 against him, .308 from the left side, .306 from the right side.

Double-A: Altoona (32-36) VS New Britain (35-33) 7:00pm
Probable starter: Gerrit Cole (AA debut)

Gerrit Cole will make his AA debut tonight. While in Bradenton, he pitched a total of 67 innings over 13 starts, allowing 53 hits, five homers, 21 walks and he struck out 69 batters. Cole had a 1.63 GO/AO ratio and a .217 BAA. He did not allow more than three earned runs in any of his starts with Bradenton. In his last start before his promotion, he went five scoreless innings, giving up three hits, two walks and he struck out seven.

High-A: Bradenton (29-40) VS St Lucie (48-19) 10:00am
Probable starter: Casey Sadler (0-3 3.66)

Casey Sadler will make his third start of the season today. He has also pitched 15 times in relief. As a starter on 5/18, he gave up two runs(one earned) in four innings, then in his second start on 6/2, he allowed four runs on seven hits in four innings. As a reliever, he has pitched a total of 38.2 innings, with a 3.26 ERA and 35 strikeouts. At home this year, Casey has a 2.52 ERA in 25 innings.

West Virginia is off today. They finished their first half in last place, 22.5 games behind division winner Greensboro. Jake Burnette will make his first pro start tonight. The seventh round pick in 2011 draft, made his debut for the Gulf Coast League Pirates last year, pitching just one game. He threw one inning, allowing a hit, a walk and an unearned run, while striking out one batter.

John Dreker

John was born in Kearny, NJ, hometown of the 2B for the Pirates 1909 World Championship team, Dots Miller. In fact they have some of the same relatives in common, so it was only natural for him to become a lifelong Pirates fan. Before joining Pirates Prospects in July 2010, John had written numerous articles on the history of baseball while also releasing his own book and co-authoring another on the history of the game. He writes a weekly article on Pirates history for the site, has already interviewed many of the current minor leaguers with many more on the way and follows the foreign minor league teams very closely for the site.
