Welker throws fastballs that reach 99 mph. He’s 6’7″, just the way the Pirates like their pitchers. He’s improved every year for the last three seasons. I’d be shocked if the Pirates put him on waivers.

Since Mercer isn’t going to play, send him down. Barmes and his .192 average are evidently good enough.

Moskos was on the DL at the time of the promotion. Also Slaten had an out-clause in his contract and had to be added to the roster, or he would have been lost.

I’d still get rid of McGehee, but if you want to keep him then maybe get rid of Navarro. What about Moskos? Pirates did not show a lot of faith by promoting Slaten over him. Neil will probably just add someone to the 60 day DL. He has a knack for that.

however with facing 2 LHP to start the Orioles series, I’d probably elect to start McGehee at DH and have Clement pinch hit later in the game if needed.

I’d remove Duke Welker from the 40 man. He really doesn’t seem like a valuable long term option, and there are many guys ahead of him on the bullpen depth chart, even in AAA. And agreed Mercer easy choice from 25 man.

Sending Mercer down is the easy 25 man decision. The 40 man is the hard one. Maybe Slaten?

Hague and McGehee seem redundant at this point. Give Clement another shot. Not sure how to add him to the roster, but releasing McGehee doesn’t seem unthinkable.
