For example, slot is $2.5 million and you sign the guy for $2 million, you then have 500k to play with elsewhere.
If the player (at any pick 1-10) doesn’t sign you lose the whole slot amount from your budget.
There is no slot for 11-50, just the rule that says anything over 100k counts against your round 1-10 pool. Rounds 11-50 are not part of the pool so you can’t save any money there.

If Appel doesn’t sign, the slot money for him disappears from our pool. Since the other picks 1S through 5 will require full slot money or more, there just won’t be enough to do anything with more than one top HS kid.
