Sorry, glitched and couldn’t finish.

But like I said, if they are competing at that point, wouldn’t it make sense to make a move to bolster the lineup with guy we traded a prospect for, and keep our all-star closer? To reiterate, I’m still open to the idea of a trade, it would just have to be “an offer we couldn’t refuse.”

I definitely agree with you….I suppose I would have to see what the trade is. It would have to involve impact offense and at least the amount of team control the Pirates have left on Hanrahan. I suppose my argument would lie in, if they’re good enough and still look strong to the point where they’re competing around the deadline, wouldn’t it make more sense to go for a, Derek Lee kind of trade rather than a blockbuster deal. I’m well aware of the amount of bullpen depth the Pirates have.

I would never turn down a good trade involving a closer. Guys who can close long term are VERY rare. Most are Thigpen, Gagne, etc. It’s 3 outs and surely the Bucs can find someone else in the bullpen who can get them.

Completely unrelated, but I was thinking about this today. Now, to preface, I’m of the opinion that Hanrahan could supply the team with a decent return given the recent history of trades involving closers of his status. However, hypothetically, if the Pirates are still in the running come the trade deadline…is this a guy you hold onto?
