the move is clearly moving J Mac. 27yrs old. look at it this way you traded Dotel to get him, parlay that good trade to this good trade to get a CORNERSTONE for years to come. when you sign Appel that gives another arm moving quickly through the system. im not worried about arms [knock on wood] and you need to time that with the slowly improving batting lineup and when it meets you have a championship ballclub, something i’ve never seen in my life here in Pittsburgh.

need to slowly reshape rotation for when the fantastic four (cole, j-mo, appel, heredia) come up in 2-3 years. all of them. i despise Karstens with every ounce of my body but i am absolutely okay with him in the 3-4 slot in the meantime, Lincoln could be number 5 until Cole arrives next June at the latest. Correia sucks waste of 4m per year.

I have no interest in letting any of our stud starters go – Taillon, Cole, Heredia, McPherson, Wilson, Clay Holmes, Kingham…Owens I’m on the fence. I may be missing a few guys who have serious stuff – but these guys stay in the system IMO and we add to them with starting with Appel.
If you want to trade, I think guys like Jeff Clement, Hauge, D’Arnaud, are guys you can afford to move – along with marginal to good arms like Morris, Locke, Wood.
What do you get back for them… I’m not sure, but I don’t give up the big guns who toss it 95-100mph… sorry NO WAY!!!
