Top prospect Gerrit Cole, will make his first start in 12 days due to the Eastern League All-Star break and his one inning appearance in the Futures Game. Bradenton was rained out yesterday. They will play a doubleheader today consisting of two 7-inning games. No starter for game two of the doubleheader has been announced yet. ** Jameson Taillon is now listed as the game one starter, Benedict game two** The two DSL affiliates have off until Monday due to the DSL All-Star break. Probable starter: Justin Wilson (7-4 3.44)

Justin Wilson will make his 19th start of the season tonight. He has pitched a total of 96.2 innings, allowing 66 hits, eight homers, 45 walks and he has 99 strikeouts. In his last start, Justin gave up three runs over five innings, with three hits and four walks surrendered. He has had five starts this year in which he gave up one or less(once) hits. Wilson has a .191 BAA, .143 from the left side. He ranks eighth in the International League with a 1.15 WHIP, tenth in ERA and third in strikeouts.

Gerrit Cole will make his fourth start for Altoona tonight. Before being promoted to AA, Gerrit made 13 starts for Bradenton, pitching a total of 67 innings, allowing 53 hits, five homers, 21 walks and he had 69 strikeouts. In his last start, he went 5.2 innings, giving up one earned run on six hits and a walk while recording five strikeouts. In his previous outing, he lasted just one inning due to reaching his single inning pitch count limit. Cole’s AA debut resulted in a five inning appearance in which he gave up two runs on five hits and no walks.

Matt Benedict will make his fifth start for Bradenton tonight. He began the year with West Virginia, going 4-4 3.42 in 76.1 innings over 14 starts. In his last start on 7/8, he went just one inning due to reaching his single inning pitch count limit. He gave up five runs on four hits, one homer and a walk. He was coming off his best start for Bradenton. On 7/3, he went six innings, giving up one unearned run on two hits and a walk. Matt gave up the same amount of homers with WV(3) as he has given up in 60 less innings with Bradenton.

Robby Rowland will make his tenth start for West Virginia tonight. He has pitched a total of 49.1 innings, allowing 50 hits, just one homer, 12 walks and he has 27 strikeouts. In his last start on 7/7, Robby threw six shutout innings, giving up six hits and no walks with three strikeouts. On the road this year, he is 2-2 3.29 in 27.1 innings. Clay Holmes will make his fifth start of the season tonight. In his last start, he threw five shutout innings, giving up just one hit and one walks with two strikeouts. It was the second time he pitched five innings and gave up only one hit, and the third time he pitched five innings without allowing an earned run. In 18.2 innings, Holmes has 14 strikeouts, a 1.53 GO/AO ratio and a .164 BAA.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long.
