The Buccos are in first place at the season’s halfway point. They’ve had a difficult schedule for a good bit of this season’s first half. Yes … there is a lot of baseball left. But if we are strictly talking about competing at the big league level, I think that first place after 83 games is competing, and not only that, it is also succeeding.

However, I don’t like the concept of trading for Greinke or Hamels, because there’s no way the Bucs could resign them next season and we clearly aren’t ready to compete just yet. I like what Huntington is doing with our system and I hope he gives it [is given] another few seasons to really show his plan (which I don’t think was trading away those top prospects for a rental arm).
