It would only be selling low on Tabata if you think that he's gonna turn it around. IMHO I kinda think other GMs might think he could, and frankly I just don't see it. This might be the best time to trade him.

Yeah, but that would really be selling low on Tabata, right? I can't imagine his stock could drop any lower than it is right now. That is not a smart decision for a GM. Plus, he's still young... he may straighten up yet.

I disagree with your opinion that, "[The Pirates] clearly aren't ready to compete just yet." In fact, I strongly disagree. The Buccos are in first place at the season's halfway point. They've had a difficult schedule for a good bit of this season's first half. Yes ... there is a lot of baseball left. But if we are strictly talking about competing at the big league level, I think that first place after 83 games is competing, and not only that, it is also succeeding.

Shoot me for asking, but what about a trade for Tabata and lower level prospects in exchange for a bat? Would Tabata have value and could he be part of an exchange where we get a solid offensive piece with a couple of years of control?

As long as the Buccos stay away from Cole, Taillon, and Heredia I'm okay with dealing for a steady producer. However, I don't like the concept of trading for Greinke or Hamels, because there's no way the Bucs could resign them next season and we clearly aren't ready to compete just yet. I like what Huntington is doing with our system and I hope he gives it [is given] another few seasons to really show his plan (which I don't think was trading away those top prospects for a rental arm).

FWIW...Moreno has not played at all this year. Cayones has batted .273 in 42 PAs with 7 walks and 3 2bs.

Yeh...I'd say that was a steal....lol
