Pirates Designate Drew Sutton For Assignment

The Pittsburgh Pirates have designated infielder Drew Sutton for assignment, per a team press release. The move was made to create a spot on the 25-man roster for relief pitcher Daniel McCutchen, who Kristy Robinson reported earlier would be getting the call to the majors to replace Brad Lincoln.

Sutton hit for a .243/.278/.419 line in 74 at-bats with the Pirates.

  1. Sad to see him go… we’ll always have that walk-off homer to remember him by.

  2. Hmpf. I actually liked Sutton a little better as the super utility guy than Harrison.

  3. Gaby Sanchez for Gorkys Hernandez and the draft pick is a no brainer. Great trade.

  4. Sorry to see him go.

  5. I don’t like this move. Mercer or Harrison should have went down.

  6. Sutton gave us pretty decent value for a fa pickup. Hope he clears waivers. We could use him at Indy. He would be a decent player if he just made more contact.

  7. Hopefully he can clear waivers, he’d be a valuable re-call for September.
