what? its not about money or waiting. its about being smart with your roster and not overpaying. We took maholms would be cash and gave it to Burnett. AND we have cash to burn at trade deadline.

The cash required to keep Maholm ($9.75M) was more than he was worth, especially as determined by what he ended up signing for.

I don’t want to see Bedard replaced. He’ll get it back. He’s a good pitcher.

Though I’d be fine with having Maholm again. Maholm would not be worth the $9M+ it would have cost to keep him, but he’s a mid to bottom of the rotation guy. He’s basically the same pitcher as Jason Vargas. Not a big upgrade, but I trust him to be solid.
