Pirates Sign Venezuelan Outfielder

Published:

According to Eduardo Ceccato of El Tiempo, the Pittsburgh Pirates have signed Venezuelan outfielder Alexis Bastardo. The article says that Bastardo is a 6.4-6.5 runner with a 60 arm. Bastardo is a center fielder, but can play right field because of the arm. He’s a talented hitter and fielder, according to the article.

The article also mentions that Bastardo is 16 and signed on July 2nd, but I’ve learned that both are incorrect. Bastardo was actually a pre-July 2nd signing, and is 18 years old. So he won’t count toward the 2012-13 bonus pool.
