Pirates Trade Brian Friday for Christian Marrero

The Pittsburgh Pirates have traded infielder Brian Friday to the Atlanta Braves for outfielder Christian Marrero. Friday once looked like the shortstop of the future in Pittsburgh, with a .287/.365/.387 line in 341 at-bats in high-A in 2008, at the age of 22. He has since struggled at the plate, and has become more of an organizational player.

Marrero has split time this year between Double-A and Triple-A. In 194 at-bats in Triple-A, he has a .247/.347/.392 line. He will likely serve as organizational depth for Indianapolis, since the Pirates have Jose Tabata, Gorkys Hernandez, and Brandon Boggs spending time in the outfield in Triple-A.

Friday got passed a while ago, at least he might get a shot with the Braves. If horrible Brian Bixler can be a major leaguer, so can Friday.
