Yeah, he seems pretty impressive. It may be one of those things though, that since he was injured and missed a good bit of time this year, that he’ll just finish the season in AA and start in Indianapolis next year.

And it is a shame we traded away our comp pick (what Barnes was) for a 1b who hit .225 with no power the 2nd half of last year and .200 this year.

Yeah, I think all the promising young outfielders definitely made it easier to part with Grossman. However, don’t forget, there’s also Santos as the same level as Grossman who’s (statistically) looking very good.

I just noticed yesterday that he hasn’t given up a run yet. He’s been about their best reliever. Hopefully he’ll start getting some longer outings.

I don’t see where he’d fit. There’s no room for him in West Virginia. They’ve got Polanco, Garcia, and Lewis playing the outfield on most nights. I doubt they’d skip him up to Bradenton for the end of the season.

I could see him moving to Bradenton next year, similar to what Alex Dickerson did this year (after Dickerson spent all of his time in SC in 2011). It would be easier to fit him there, as I could see someone like Willy Garcia staying back in West Virginia to start the year and work on his plate patience.

any chance barnes gets a look outside of state college this year? and where is he likely to start next season?

I really like what we’ve seen from Barnes, Gaffney, Ramirez and Myles, and Escobar’s been OK considering his age and lack of experience. Way more OF depth now. Hopefully somebody else will have a Polanco-style breakout next year.

Lots of promising guys there besides the obvious (Heredia/Holmes).

Good to see Barnes being an on base machine! Maybe that’s why Grossman was expendable?
