Really because if Machado was a pirate everyone would be freaking out that he is batting .250. I would much rather have Tallion!

I think what we fans would like to see more often then we do from any of our future pitchers is 6 innings 10 Ks and 3 hits or something like that every now and then. A dominate performance from our pitchers usually constitutes 6 innings and maybe 6Ks. Thats great but I am not sure that s dominate. I see our guys get dominated at least once a week by the opposing pitchers in every classification.

I would hope that pitchers like Cole and Tallion who throw close to 100 would miss more bats then they do.

I was looking past the earned runs, I would have rather seen him give up a bloop and a blast for 2 earned runs but strike out 7, walk 2, and do it a tad more efficiently. But more so than any of that is that I would think he would miss more bats by accident than he has been with the “stuff” he is advertised as having considering he is at high A ball. All that being said, I am excited that he is a Pirate, I do believe in him. It may be like Lee said, with all the hype I’m sure my hopes/expectations are too high. I was just hoping we would still all be wondering why he isn’t in AA yet.

I’d rather see him as a starter. He’s inconsistent, but what we saw last year was that he’s also inconsistent in the bullpen. When he is on his game, he dominates. And that almost makes up for the horrible performances when he’s off his game and his control is horrible. He can be anywhere from a #3-5 starter, depending on how often he’s on his game.

I don’t want a wild LHP coming in from the pen, either. He can dominate when he is on as both a SP AND RP, but his wildness makes him unreliable, imho.
I hope I am wrong, tho.

I think he may be destined for the bullpen in the majors. I’m ok with that… he showed last year that he can dominate there.

Actually it was a big inning that made his line look this way.

Through 3 innings: 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K

Through 4: 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K. 59 pitches, 35 strikes

He got two outs to start the fifth, then gave up a single. An error by Alex Dickerson kept the inning going. A single brought in the earned run, then he closed out the inning with a strikeout.

He got two outs to start the sixth, then issued a walk before being pulled.
The only bad inning he had, which was his fault, was the first. He gave up a leadoff double and an RBI single two batters later.

The error wasn’t his fault in the fifth, but extended that inning, and put him up to 82 pitches after the frame. He was never close to a big inning.
As for dominating, he isn’t pitching up to expectations as a top pitching prospect. But there’s no question that he has the talent. I think what someone said earlier is a good point. Cole and Taillon both started in high-A this year. Yet Cole went through three years of college before getting here. This would have been Taillon’s sophomore year in college. We saw Cole make some big improvements in his junior year of college, and he still had some things to work on in high-A early this year. I think that puts things in to perspective for Taillon.
