Yeah, but who, as a 36 year old at the time is going to turn down a guaranteed 13 million. He’ll definitely be picking that option up, it’s just a matter of what team he’s with when he does.

what’s not to like about Wandy, he is a solid workhorse. With Cutch and hopefully Marte, there isn’t much room for Grossman. Hopefully Bell won’t be too far behind. But missing most of this year isn’t going to help his development.

As long as Wandy’s arm doesn’t fall off, it could be a good deal. I’m bummed to see Grossman go, the Pirates have very little position player depth.

Pretty close/good call on equal value, sounds like Pirates get $12MM out of $30MM assuming Wandy exercises his 2014 option. If he does exercise it, I like this deal with 2.5 yrs of control and Grossman being the only prospect who will really be missed and at least he’s part of an organizational position of strength with Cutch, Marte, and now Polanco emerging. If he chooses to become a free agent after 2013, I like the deal less but either way I hope he also brings a comp pick if/when he leaves. Any factor to consider, strong LHP plays much, much better in PNC than Minute Maid so I’m optimistic
