The Pittsburgh Pirates have reinstated right-hander Juan Cruz from the 15-day disabled list and have optioned right-hander Jared Hughes to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Right shoulder inflammation sent Cruz to the disabled list on July 21 (retroactive to the 18th). Cruz made two rehab appearances with Double-A Altoona. His most recent came on Thursday where he saw an increase in his velocity and tossed a scoreless inning in relief. The veteran righty has posted a 2.61 ERA over 31.0 innings with Pittsburgh this season.
Hughes broke camp out of spring training for the first time in his professional career. The rookie posted a 2.70 ERA over 56.2 innings with the Pirates. Hughes led rookie relievers in ERA for most of the season, but showed recent fatigue and struggles in relief. The right-hander tossed 2.1 scoreless innings of relief on Saturday night, but had allowed seven earned runs over his seven innings prior.

I agree. Not sure why he is still on the roster.

I don’t understand this. He had a couple bad outings recently, but he’s had a great year.
