That’s a good observation. Locke always gets labeled with the “he’s the next Duke/Maholm soft tossing lefty” tag, but he’s not exactly a soft tossing lefty. He doesn’t throw mid-90s like Wilson, but he’s not topping out at 90 MPH.

As another observation….what’s up with people that question Locke’s stuff as a lefty? I realize he’s no flame-thrower, but when he was in Pittsburgh last year, he was consistently 91-93 and mostly in the 92-93 range. In my experience, that seems as if it’s a bit above average, especially if he has good command and if his change up is as good as advertised. There’s also the strong possibility that he could be one of those guys that adds a cutter later on, as it seems every lefty does in order to help run the ball in on righties.

Is there any known intention towards McPherson heading to AAA before the end of the season? I was expecting them to send him to Altoona as essentially just a rehab assignment. However, the longer this goes on, the more it just looks like a lost year for him, with the hope that he finishes strong and healthy.
