Comments on: Pirates Notebook: McDonald Struggling in 2nd Half; Bucs Going With 6-Man Rotation Your best source for news on the Pittsburgh Pirates and their minor league system. Say he has shoulder whatever and put him on the seven day DL.

By: James S Sat, 11 Aug 2012 17:48:00 +0000 Hurdle blew that game, not McDonald. J-Mac was just being the same pitcher he’s been his whole career with the Pirates up until 2012. Tiring out in the 5th inning. So he finally improved in 2012, that is no reason to forget that you had still better have some relief pitcher ready to come in very early in a James McDonald start.
Hurdle should have yanked him when they scored the first 3 runs and it was 7-4. Leaving him in to face Headley was idiotic.

By: Lee Young Sat, 11 Aug 2012 14:27:00 +0000 My friend just said the same thing to me when we were commiserating each other about last night’s game. I responded “Warren Spahn threw 259 inn at the age of 42!”

He laughed and said, “yeah, but Spahnie wasn’t babied like they are now”….lol.

By: Ben Hohlfelder Sat, 11 Aug 2012 14:22:00 +0000 i really do not like 6 man rotations…pitchers are extreme creatures of habit and this can only serve to mess up peoples rythym. burnett is cruising and bedard and karstens seem to be on track again. now pitchers have to be wondering if and when their next start should be…not something they should have to focus on in the middle of a playoff race. if anything skip jmac for one start and try to let him work some things out in the bullpen while getting some extra rest

By: John DiVito Sat, 11 Aug 2012 14:09:00 +0000 He’s also 35 and probably could use the extra day in between starts. Hopefully we dont’ use him up before the playoffs :)

By: Lee Young Sat, 11 Aug 2012 13:49:00 +0000 explicable Clint move # 578:

“Pirates skipper Clint Hurdle said after the game that they will
slide Kevin Correia into the rotation moving forward and will currently
go with a six-man rotation.

They stack up as follows: A.J. Burnett on Saturday, Erik Bedard
Sunday, Jeff Karstens Monday, Kevin Correia Tuesday, Wandy Rodriguez
Wednesday and McDonald Thursday.”

Hey Clint….doncha think you should leave AJ on his regular turn and
rotate all the rest of the guys? This is the opposite of what Mauch did
in ‘64. AJ is our ONLY reliable starter right now! And GIVE Locke a shot! What do you have to lose?
