The Pittsburgh Pirates have activated right-hander Chad Qualls from the disabled list. The move now gives the Pirates ten relievers in the bullpen, not counting Joel Hanrahan. Qualls made a rehab appearance for Indianapolis on September 3rd, striking out the side. Since then he’s been throwing side sessions and sim games.

Why isn’t Hanrahan counted with the other 10 relievers? I don’t get it……

I usually keep the closer separate from the bullpen, since the closer is only used in the ninth inning.
