In this case, the Pirates selected his contract from Bradenton and added him to the roster. Promoted means what it says. He was promoted from one level to the next level. Recalled simply means that player A was brought back to the major league club. He was already on the 40 man, so a simple recall was all that was required.

I am not sure what the difference is between “selected,” “promoted,” and “recalled.” Any insight?
