Why was Hughes brought in for the 3rd straight game (breaking one of Hurdle’s rules? Why wasn’t a lefty brought in to face Rizzo? If one wasn’t up in the pen, why not?

No reason to pitch Van Der Dud. The Karstens excuse Hurdle gave doesn’t wash because he hasn’t pitched in relief in two years (that I am aware of). RV also was a starter. Personally, I would’ve brought in Leroux (he bombed too), or Qualls, but….
