It’s not really extra work. Players always pitch in the off-season. He would be pitching during instructs if he wasn’t in the AFL. The difference is that these games are a little more structured than instructs games.
The most attention gets paid to the regular season workload. But that workload only plays one part of the total workload. That total workload includes Spring Training innings, and innings after the season.

How worried are you about this extra workload when considering his injury history?

Probably because he’s in Double-A, has control issues, and hasn’t pitched in Triple-A yet. Plus they have like 13-14 relievers.

The AFL is great and all, but why not see what that 99mph fastball can do for the Pirates? The Pirates should have DFA’d No Relation, added Black to the 40-man roster, and called him up.
