People seem to forget that Tabata has been a solid obp guy for most of his three seasons (sans april-May last year). He is still the answer at leadoff against LH and could easily win back the RF job.

Agreed. Pretty much what every other manager says at the winter meetings too. They’re there as fluff while the GMs meet in back rooms or cyberspace and work the deals.

Feel bad for Hurdle. First he’s the manager of the Pittsburgh pirates. Imagine how proud he is if that walking around Nashville with that title. He can’t name a lead off hitter because he doesn’t have one. Neil made Martin the highest paid FA in team history. He’ll hit 6-7 in the line up. Get rid of Karstens keep a guy that won’t pitch until mid season at best with a poor track record and give him 2 million. Now lets see if we can trade a closer and home run leader for what ??? Yes has to be nice being the pirate manager knowing Neil and hokey hey are putting a championship quality team together as we speak.

Hurdle made it sound like Marte, Snider, and Sanchez will all be everyday players…so I would be shocked if Jones was not traded soon. It’s gonna be tough to get consistency from all 3 of those guys, so they better get a legit starting option for Jones (or Hanrahan).

for Hurdle the success of the interview is giving out little info and making no major gaffes.

He was successful. He is pretty good with media. And his glibness is probably what got him the job as manager. He’d probably be better on ESPN or MLB.com

Had I been asked the same questions, I think I could’ve answered with the same generalities about half the time. This is the definition of saying something without saying anything. Other than Walker’s health update, there is practically no value to anything he said.
