Pirates Interested in Manny Parra

We’ve already heard that the Pirates are interested in left-handed pitcher Manny Parra, among other recently non-tendered pitchers. Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel had an update on Twitter, pointing out that the Pirates and the Mets were both interested in Parra. As I noted last night, Parra would be an interesting option for the bullpen, but his lack of control wouldn’t make it likely that he’d find success as a starter. He doesn’t really stand out from guys like Vin Mazzaro, Zach Stewart, or Chad Beck, other than the fact that he’s left-handed.

  1. Bring me the ghost of Oliver Perez.

  2. “Interested” covers a lot of ground with a guy like Parra. They may just be thinking in terms of a minor league deal, which is the most I’d give him. He pretty much sucks.

  3. I don’t know what they would see in him, beats me! They can do as well staying inside the system.

  4. Parra seems like a lefty whose peripherals are consistently better than his ERA where Lannan seems like a lefty whose peripherals are consistently worse than his ERA. I pick Lannan.
