Comments on: Winter Leagues Recap: Johnson Comes Up Big in Playoff Win Your best source for news on the Pittsburgh Pirates and their minor league system. Johnson faced a lineup last night that was strong AAA quality. Pie has plenty of major league experience, while Valdez has played a long time in the minors and he’s been a star in the Mexican League the last couple years. That league is considered AAA quality.
The leadoff hitter was Ray Olmedo, six year major leaguer, played with White Sox this season.
The Phillies Mike Martinez was in the lineup too, he’s played 133 major league games over the last two seasons.
Drew Butera batted eighth, he’s spent last three years with Twins.
Johnson also faced Rene Reyes, played two years for Rockies, but has spent last seven seasons in the Mexican League, where he has put up six straight .920+ OPS seasons.
Then there was Ed Rogers, who played three years for the Orioles and 14 seasons in the minors.
The other two batters have time in at AAA.
So while it isn’t a star studded lineup he faced, it was a playoff game against six current/former major leaguers and three AAA players
