That is true too, he has power so they can’t play him shallow and he is more of a line drive hitter so that opens up the field. Watch him early, I think he will get a steady diet of breaking balls away in the dirt and fastballs high in the zone. If he lays off them, it will force pitchers to give him something to hit and then he will excel. If he doesn’t, you can expect some struggles until he learns

Also with Marte you have to defend the whole park. he will drive the ball down either line. reminds me of Vlad Guerrero in that way. I hope pitchers don’t find a gaping hole in his swing.

I could see a lot of long hitting streaks because of his speed and the fact he doesn’t walk, plus bats at the top of the order. He will get 4-5 official AB’s a game and he can not only bunt for a hit, but he can also beat out infield hits.
That is what they expected with Tabata, but somewhere between Altoona and the majors, his speed dropped off. Too many hamstring problems, plus added weight as he filled out. Marte is in better shape so he should be able to maintain that part of his game longer.

Do you get the feeling that Marte has a lot of long hitting streaks in his future? When he is hot he hits everything.
