Both will be early 18 year olds and are mature beyond their years. The Pirates need to groom an heir apparent for Pedro Alvarez who is a Boras client and will be with the Pirates through 2016 – Mathison or McGuire.

I wouldn’t mind Wilson or Bryant, then Ball. I also wouldn’t mind them taking two college bats and having them on the same basic schedule towards the majors as Hanson/Polanco and maybe Osuna. I really liked what I saw from Osuna last year in person, I think he is a bit underrated and the bat will play well as he goes up.
Right now it is just too early to pinpoint how this class will go. It is supposed to be very weak with college bats and no one up the middle. Top heavy with college pitchers and some good HS outfielders and LHP.
I think with the 9/14 picks we will see one pitcher, one hitter, one college, one prep. Just a hunch based on this class and the past

We have at least 10 strong (Plus or better) RHSP’s, so I would be very surprised if the Pirates did not use Pick’s #9 and #14 for guys like Trey Ball and Stephen Gonsalves – 2 high end High School LHSP’s.
