I think you mentioned before that it isn’t just this year that Stanek hasn’t pitched deep…its every year. Lack of a track record is pretty alarming, you’re right. Maybe I’m dreaming too much on him, but I’m not particularly impressed with the college lefties right now either. Wilson kind of strikes me as the big wild-card in all of this too.

Basically, Stanek is starting to make me skeptical he can be a starter in the majors. He has two real good pitches, but he relies heavily on them and he has never gone deep into games with any consistency. That makes me think(as of right now) he may be a future reliever. I wouldn’t waste a first round pick on a reliever. He needs to show me some gumption here. Go seven innings in a couple straight starts, attack hitters, pound the strike zone

Good to hear. I just read some stuff from Keith Law that was skeptical about his ability to stick at third. Also, he had some cool insight about Stanek’s troubles; he seems to think that he’s had some issues with his slider and the calling the pitch too much (which might make sense, if he’s have issues with control). Wouldn’t mind him falling to them and having that option.

He said “Nothing flashy, but he makes the plays”
I’ll keep track of it as we go ahead and if I hear anything about his defense, I’ll include it in the write-ups

From everything I’ve read, it sounds like the big thing with Moran isn’t so much the bat as far as whether he can stick at 3rd. It sounds like he’s iffy there (as with Bryant) but as Bryant is talked about at a corner OF spot, why wouldn’t Moran work there? Would it just be because Moran hasn’t been tried there? Even if he didn’t have the power to profile there, if he hit as well as he did and drew the walks, I would think he’d profile there just fine.

Coming into the year, he looked like the kind of guy who could have a big season and shoot up the boards. As it stands now, he isn’t having a horrible season but I wouldn’t say the best either. He’s projected to hit for power but hasn’t really shown it. Also, recently I have been seeing reports, the most recent from the guy at BigLeagueFutures, saying that Moran may not be suitable defensively at 3B. I definitely wouldn’t take him at #9, I think Denney, or Stanek may be available and I’d grab them.

He was ranked fifth among all college hitters by both Baseball America and Keith Law, although he was behind Aaron Judge on one list and Phillip Ervin on the other. I don’t think many people believe the numbers because it is such a huge offense stadium they play at. The Lobos and their opponents average 17.5 runs scored per home game, 10.3 in road games.

I’m thinking he goes around 7 at the latest, possibly as high as 5, but some people disagree. Moran is a better pure hitter and can stick at 3b. That might push him over the top and drop down Bryant. If Austin Wilson comes back and plays well, some people like him better than Bryant too. What that does mean though, is that between the three, the Pirates should have a shot at one.
If you want a replacement for Alvarez, then focus in on Moran. There is a chance Bryant won’t play 3b in the pros

He has been on fire! It sure would be nice to get a college hitter to replace Toro in a few years
