Not really sure what is going on with him, but looking at last year’s stats, he averaged just over 51/3 innings per outing. As a freshman, his outings were even a little shorter, so he really hasn’t gone deep in games ever. At least not on a consistent basis.
You can check out videos of him in this link, from his freshman year and earlier this year http://www.piratesprospects.com/2013/03/draft-preview-bryant-continues-to-hit-homers.html

Great work for all of the 2013 stuff, I’ve really enjoyed it all. Do you happen to know if there is anything different from Stanek last year to this year? Trouble throwing strikes?
One of the guys I’m starting to like a lot too is Eades. It sounds like he was one of those guys who always had “stuff,” but had issues putting it together at LSU.

I’m not sure what all the love with him is about, besides the velocity. He is really having trouble going deep in games. His slider is supposed to be a plus pitch, but apparently he relies heavily on it, some say too much. When you see a guy who throws two plus pitches, but has trouble going deep in games, I think he has a future as a reliever. With a first round pick, I have to believe you always want something more than a reliever. He needs to step it up to stay in the top ten.
Just like with all those Pirates pitchers that are throwing hard now, none of them are starters and none of them are considered top prospects. Grullon might be a sleeper though. Pirates really liked him when he signed and they moved him quickly to the states.

Interesting note about Stanek hitting 95 and staying near the top of the draft. The Pirates have many many guys who reach the mid 90s including several who are not on the prospect radar. On Sunday Axel Diaz was consistently 92-93 and touched 95. Kyle Haynes was 93-94 consistently. 6’7″ Adrian Grullon touches 94-95. Emmanuel DeLeon throws 94-96 … Herrand throws at least that hard. And I don’t think any of those guys are considered top 50 prospects for the Pirates.
