In reality though, it’s a shaky team. McCutchen remains their only plus player in all facets of the game. You need more than one.

Everything is not about hitting everything is not about defense. SS is supposed to pick it, hitting is a bonus, 3rd basemen is supposed to have power and some defense, Alvarez does exactly that. The catcher is as solid as most, granted he is not Molina or Posey, but he is very good, catching is also a catch first and hitting is a bonus. RF, could very easily shake out as Garret Jones position, that would put power at the corner, exactly what you want. The pitching has question marks but does have plenty of depth and options to go to.
Having said all this lets go to the Reds, Cards, Brewers and Cubs and check out their question marks, I can find a few for them to.
Quite frankly if I were looking for weaknesses with the Pirates I might look at the Brewers and the Padres and try to figure out how to beat these teams, they are way over 500 if they can split with those teams and we are not talking about holes on this team.

Hope I am wrong but the pitching scares the hell out of me and the black holes in the offense are killers…..RF.. SS…C….3B…and probably LF…although I’m holding out hope that next year Marte really busts out.
