What do you like in the 2nd round? I’m not a big fan of Marco Gonzalez for on of their first round picks, but I think he’d be a good get in the 2nd. Any chance he lasts till there? Who would you like to see them target in the 2nd round? I know thats kind of a tough question, as a lot of it depends on what they go for with their first two. But I wouldn’t mind see them going HS on one of the first two picks, and pick a potential quick-moving college pitcher with the 2nd round pick.

Had to go back to revisions to figure out what that was all about. I originally was talking about how far Jordan Sheffield and Stephen Gonsalves had fallen since early on and how hard it was to predict HS pitchers even a month from now. That line you pointed out was about Sheffield and I just forgot to erase it. That section was getting too crowded and getting off topic.
Here is actual info on Clarkin from when I did a write-up about him a couple weeks ago http://www.piratesprospects.com/2013/04/draft-prospect-watch-could-pirates-be-interested-in-ian-clarkin-or-ryan-boldt.html

He throws low 90′s, with a plus breaking ball and average change-up. His downside is that he is a righty and doesn’t have a big body, so there isn’t a lot of projection with him. Still, he is a very good pitcher now, so his floor is higher than most HS pitchers.”

He is LEFT handed, and is like 6’2 190, that frame isn’t too small there.

I figured it would be good for everyone to see just what is available and the strengths and weaknesses of the draft class at the top. There are also enough names on here that you could hope for some of “the others” to drop to the Pirates in the second round

” though most Pirates fans would want the shortstop because it has been such a tough spot to fill.”
Yep that fits. Would like to see Colin Moran and JP Crawford with any big lefty pitcher rounding out my top three.

Should be fairly straight forward picking either Manaea or Ball to add a power lefty, and take the best bat available…part of me hopes Meadows drops to us.

I am hoping for Moran and Ball, with maybe Crawford 3rd.

I’m hoping they draft Trey Ball.
