I think figuring out how to beat them is probably the key statement. Looking at it from a broad view it would appear that pitching well would be the key to beating the Brewers, but how to do it?
There was some good that came out of that Brewer series besides winning the last game. I thought hitting around two of their top pitchers was a very good sign. The Bucs actually got plenty of runs to win all of those games.
Huntington has built a very good team and IMO will contend this year if they don’t get hit with insurmountable problems.
More people should tune into other games around baseball and take a look at what other teams look like, they might think the Pirates are world beaters after looking at some of them. There is some bad baseball out there.

I felt totally uncomfortable with JMac starting a game but with the rotation the way it was they couldn’t even pretend he needed to miss a start for some obscure reason. Teams do this all the time if one guy is totally horrible against a team. Thank you Hurdle/Huntington for deciding to bring Jonathan Sanchez north. He was a disaster from day one and everyone in mlb knew that he still was a long way from back. I guess except for the Pirates front office. Sometimes you can’t restore older models so you don’t buy them hoping you can just because their cheap.

And the heroes late were guys like Marte, Inge, and Alvarez and the pitching, which was a combination of relievers from the very start, was better than expected and Jennmar Gomez, Justin Wilson, Bryan Morris, and Mark Melancon were not even on the Pirates team last year. The only pitcher from 2012 was the Closer, Jason Grilli. The Pirates have served notice to Cincy, St Louis, Atlanta, Philly, and others, but that game yesterday with the Brewers was a “character game”.
