Whoever they draft is going to be at least 2 or 3 years away best case scenario. Draft best player on their board regardless of position.

You can never have enough quality pitchers but instead of signing all these journeymen to play behind the plate and 1b for one year lets get a good catcher that can play for more than a year and actually give Cole and Wilson and all the young arms a guy they can build a relationship with and have a good connection with for a few years. They have a new 1st Baseman and Catcher every year. We have a good SS in Alen Hanson working his way up the minors, we have 2 top 15 pitching prospects 3 top 100, Polanco is in the top 100 as an OF, then we have a bunch of other players with tons of potential like Josh Bell and Barrett Barnes so lets get a Catcher / 1st Baseman who can play both positions or get one for each position. Just my opinion. Neil Huntington is doing better than he has the past few years but lets go already. And if Cole doesnt get called up at some point this season I have a feeling we wont have to worry about seeing him in a Pirate uniform the rest of his career……cause he will sign with somebody who will play him and pay him more.

Those area’s where they have need (SS) can be filled either in the Free Agent market or by promoting Jordy Mercer. Therefore my choice at No. 9 would be Trey Ball regardless of who else is available. Big time LH arm is something the Pirates do not have at the lower end of the system. How nice would it be to have a 6’6″ RHSP in Luis Heredia and a 6’6″ LHSP in Ball and both are still 18. At No.14 if C Reese McGuire is available he would be my pick. If he has already been taken, Ian Clarkin another HS LHSP who throws in the 91-92 area now, and can bump up to 93-94, and has a reputation of knowing how to pitch would be my pick.
