The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed James McDonald on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 1st, with discomfort in his right shoulder. Jeanmar Gomez will make the start tonight. I wrote a few weeks ago about how there were warning signs of a James McDonald injury.

Russell Martin has been scratched from the lineup due neck stiffness and Michael McKenry will now catch and bat fifth.  Martin’s status is day-to-day.

Josh Harrison has been recalled to take McDonald’s spot on the roster.

Injury Update: Kyle McPherson Receives PRP Injection

Barmes, McDonald, Mercer, Inge, Alvarez, Sanchez, with Martin day-to-day and Walker due by the weekend – yep, give me just one more utility infielder and I can conquer the world. It’s a damn good thing he does not clutter the bullpen with arms since that is exactly where we have the most need right now. Please, can anyone explain this?
