For what its worth, it seems like there are so many players that could fit for the Pirates (with not a lot of talent separation) that I expect to be pleased with whomever they take at 9 and 14.

Two HS LHSP’s. Unless we can get a locked in power hitter, the next best value is pitching, and nothing better than young lefties who throw in the 90′s coming out of HS. That’s called drafting for need and value. At SS, Mercer has really shown well and Alen Hanson, 20, at Hi A and Max Moroff, 19, at Lo A are both doing well.

I think right now, it is safe to say that no one is performing better than you hoped from that class and there are a lot of early disappointments. Add to that the fact they only signed 21 players and one is gone already, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a slightly different approach taken. The new draft rules really hurt the Pirates last year, now it’s time to adjust to them and try to make them work because MLB isn’t going to adjust for the Pirates

I will be pretty happy with whoever we get. Not that it matters but I am more interested in how the Pirates manage their budget. Do they get easy signable players and spend additional money on low picks with projectable upside or do they go for broke with hard to sign guys that will likely take more of their budget? My hope is we get Moran at 9 and a HS guy at 14. No inside info just a hope.

I bet they don’t really have a “their guy” there and they will just be able to play the board and get one of the advanced bats WILL, not MIGHT, be there.

Hopefully they take a nice high upside, high risk pick at 9, and a solid advanced college bat at 14.

The Pirates could use a top left handed pitching prospect in their system. I would pass on McGuire. We have Mathesin ,Sanchez and Jhang already in the system as catchers. I know you shouldn’t draft for need but we are really lacking power corner IF and SS’s

He was good, but wasn’t even voted player of the year in his conference!
