Upton is not a high on-base guy. But he’s a career .333 OBP hitter with a current .231 OBP. That is an aberration, as is career .253 hitter Carlos Gomez racking up a league high .368 average.

I should have specified that by “one of these signings” I meant a Major League position player free agent. Huntington has been wildly unsuccessful with these types of signings, even if the Minor League contracts and pitcher contracts he has doled out have been better.

I would argue that this one isn’t much of an aberration.

I think Huntington has gotten quite a lot of signings right, if you break down every free agent he has brought into the organization, you will find a very good reason for that player. Sadly enough these are not robots and some of them played better in other organizations and are playing better in other organizations now. More and more we are finding out that free agents are not what they are cracked up to be in many cases and in most cases are not worth the money.
I don’t always agree with Huntington, like why McDonald is necessary and Mercer is not? can’t figure that one out.

In reality, McCutchen’s true BABIP talent will not be .375 (like last year) or .258 (like this year), but somewhere in between.

His BABIP is lower this year because he has hit *less* ground balls – which is perfectly normal.

Ground balls find holes more often than flyballs, with line drives finding holes more often than both. If Cutch is hitting less ground balls (which he is), it necessarily follows that his BABIP will also be less.

He started his years in college like this too. He will get it going soon!

Can’t wait see what happens if/when Cutch & Pedro get hot.

Also hoping hard for a future of Marte, Cutch, & Polanco. With Bell at 1st, Moran at 3rd, Hanson at SS, Mercer at 2nd, and Mathison at C.
A bench of Barnes, Sanchez, Herrera, Santos, and Allie. What year will that be…2016?

Am I the only one who wishes/thinks Walker is just missing another level? I feel like he’s a .290/20 hr guy that will never be able to reach it.
