Bauer has not pitched that well since being called up.

I thought that this year he would be more dominant than he has. He has great stuff but I am begining to think that he will never be that true ace that we fans believed we thought he would turn into.

Good luck with that.

I have never been a big fan of G Cole, I thought Trevor Bauer from the same school and draft was a better pitcher. Bauer is in the majors, Cole is not!

I think this is a reason why he doesn’t strike out much and tends to get hit hard at times.

Opponents may not be able to hit Cole, but they can foul off pitches, thus forcing Cole to try to paint the corners or bury sliders in the dirt trying to strike out pesky batters who foul off fastball after fastball. Pitch sequencing and use of his changeup may help Cole in this area.

Justin Wilson has great stuff and control problems; he’s pitching well in the majors this year and appears to have become a fixture in the bullpen. Would the Pirates trade Wilson for a utility infielder? I don’t thinks so. Why, then, would they trade Black or Welker for a slightly better than replacement level player or a middling prospect? Even if one considered Black and Welker middling prospects, reliable relief pitchers have greater in-game value than defensive replacement middle infielders.
Black and Welker could be possible components in a larger trade. If so, then trading them makes better sense than trading them for a middle infielder, especially if the Pirates believe Hughes is returning to form.

I think you are lumping Cole in with a much larger group of guys that have good stuff but not great stuff.

We’ve seen how quickly they can go down.

.

Unlike you Tim (and a host of others, I am not a G Cole fan. I’ve seen too many ‘great stuff’ pitchers who never get that command. As long as we don’t need him, keep him at AAA. As always, tho, I hope he proves me very wrong.
